Sylvia was born in Dallas but lived in a small town in Guanajuato, Mexico for most of her early childhood. In 1993, she moved back to Dallas, completed her bachelor's degree in journalism in 2005. Sylvia substituted right after college, fell in love with teaching and the rest is history! From 2006-2018, she taught first grade, second grade and third grade. She was reading instructional coach for three years and is currently serving as lead instructional coach in the same community where she was a student herself, a teacher and campus leader. Sylvia believes in equity, high-quality instruction and high expectations for all students. She enjoys spending time at home, watching movies with her husband and three children.
